Khajjiar Lake

Surrounding by the snow-covered Himalayas, Khajjiar Lake is located in Khajjiar in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The lake definitely gives the scenic pleasure to the eyes as it is set in a huge grassy landscape enclosed by the cedar trees from all sides. Situated at an elevation of 1920 m above sea level, Khajjiar Lake gets water from the small water streams of the Himalayas. It has derived its name from the Khajji Nag temple, which is located in the vicinity and also represents its sacred lake. Moreover, the lake holds a strong connection with the legends. However, Khajjiar Lake is almost on the verge of disappearing as it has extensively shrunk over the years.

It is one of the famous tourist spots in Khajjiar as it provides numerous recreational activities (like paragliding, family picnics, etc.), scenic beauty, and a peaceful milieu. On a sunny day with clear skies, visitors can enjoy the stunning view of Mount Kailash from the Khajjiar Lake. One of the main attractions of the lake is ‘Drifting Island,’ which is actually a chunk of weed and grass floating on the surface.
