  • Nearest Airport: Jaipur International Airport is the nearest airport, which is widely connected to the other major cities of India.
  • Nearest Railway Station: There is no direct connectivity via Railways to Pushkar, but one can reach the railway station in Ajmer and take a bus or taxi to Pushkar.
  • Roadways: The state is broadly connected to the other states of the country via roads. Buses and taxis are also accessible to reach the temple.

Best time to Visit

Well, Pushkar can be visited anytime throughout the year. However, months from November to March is the best time to visit the temple due to its pleasant climate. The major festivals and world famous Pushkar Fair is also celebrated with huge pomp and show during these months.

Location and Architecture of Temple

Manibandh Shakti Peeth is located in the calm and beautiful environment near the Gayatri hills in Pushkar, about 11 km north-west of Ajmer, Rajasthan. Constructed on a hill, the temple is made of stones where statues of various deities are engraved. Moreover, the commendable artwork and architecture of the temple reflect the glory of ancient India, and pillars show the grandeur of this divine temple.

Fair and Festivals

  • Shivratri is the popular festival, celebrated with utmost faith and happiness inside the temple premises. People keep fast during the whole day, and pour milk on Shivling and offer Bail (a kind of fruit) to the divine idols.
  • Pushkar Mela is renowned all over the world as India's largest camel, horse and cattle fairs. It is celebrated with huge grandeur and attracts tourists globally.
  • Navratri is another star attraction, which comes twice a year, celebrated for nine days with great fanfare and devotion. Devotees keep fast and avoid food derived from soil and special customs as well as commemorations are performed during these days.
  • Gayatri Jayanti is one another festival which is observed with great devotion and splendor.

About the Temple

Manibandh Shakti Peeth, popularly known as Manivedika Shakti Peeth and Gayatri Temple, is a holy pilgrimage site. On one side of Pushkar Sarovar, Savitri temple is situated on the top of the mountain, which has a magnificent statue of the Goddess Savitri, and the Gayatri temple on the other side that is considered as a Shakti Peeth. Goddess Sati dwells in the form of “Gayatri” and Lord Shiva as “Sarvananda” in the temple. The temple is deemed to be sacred for the Meditation (Sadhna) of the Gayatri Mantra. Devotees visit the temple in huge reverence to worship Goddess Gayatri. Annakoot is organized at least once a year on the foundation day of the temple.

History of the Temple

According to the puranas, Shakti Peethas were established wherever the parts or ornaments of Mother Sati fell. There are 51 Shakti Peethas of Goddess Sati that are spread across the Indian Subcontinent. These Shakti Peethas are considered holy and worshipped with supreme devotion. It is believed that the wrist or two bracelets of Mother Sati fell at this place.
