Bhadrakali Temple - Recognition, Information & Temple timings

Hinduism is greatly known for its spirituality. We all can see it in the form of beautiful temples, Shrines and other religious and spiritual places around India. Most of them with the splendour architecture are built by the rulers and their descendants.
Bhadrakali Temple is one of the examples, which is located at Jhansa Road, Thanesar, District Kurukshetra, Haryana. The Bhadrakali temple is also known as the Sri Devikupa temple. Bhadrakali Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, which is one of the nine forms of the Goddesses. The Bhadrakali temple is of 51 Shakti Peethas. Bhadrakali Shakti Peeth is more often called Savatri Shakti Peeth.

Entrance of Temple

The idol of Goddess Kali is kept in the Bhadrakali temple, and upon entering the temple, a giant lotus flower has been constructed in which the ankle of the right foot of mother Sati is installed, which is made of white marble.

Mythology

According to History, We have this interesting story which states the significance of 51 Shakti Peethas. Goddess Sati immolated her life in the sacrificial fire performed by her father, king Dakshevara, when Lord Shankar was circling the entire universe with the dead body of Goddess Sati. During this time, Lord Vishnu, with his Sudarshan Chakra, divided the body parts of Goddess Sati into 51 parts. Out of which, Sati's right ankle fell at this place. The right ankle of Sati fell in the well of this temple; hence the temple is also known as Sri Devikupa temple.

Legend

It is believed that during the Mahabharata period, Pandavas, along with Lord Krishna worshiped Goddess Durga in this temple and took the blessing for their victory. After winning the Mahabharata war, Pandavas came to this temple and donated horses. And since then the ritual of donating horses continues.

It is also believed that the 'Mundan' (hair removal practice) of Lord Krishna and Balarama was performed at this place. This is why people get their children for ‘Mundan’ practice.

Fair & Festivals

All the festivals are celebrated in Bhadrakali temple, especially on the festival of Durga Puja and Navratri, a special ‘Darshan’ is organized. The Navratri of Chaitra and Ashwin are celebrated with great pomp as a special occasion in Maha Shakti Peeth. A fair is also held here in Chaitra Navratri.

On this day, the temple is decorated with flowers and lights. The spiritual atmosphere of the temple brings peace to the hearts and minds of the devotees.

On the day of Rakshabandhan, the devotees tie the Raksha Sutra by handing over their protection to the mother. It is believed that the goddess always protects their devotees. The Navratri of Chaitra and Ashwin are celebrated with great pomp as a special celebration in Maha Shakti Peeth.

Temple Timings

The timings of the temple remain to change as per the season. There is a considerable difference between the summer & winter timings of the Bhadrakali Temple.

Summers

From 16th March to 31st October, The temple opens at sharp 5:50 am & closes at 8:00 pm.

Winters

From 1st November to 15th March, The temple timings are 6:15 am to 7:30 pm.

Aarti Timings

Aarti ritual is performed two times in a day. Mornings timing of Aarti is 05:15 am & in the evenings, the rites of Aarti are presented at 7:15 pm.

Note: The temple remains open till 9:00 pm on Saturdays and special occasions like Navaratri.

Beliefs of Maa Devikupa Bhadrakali Temple

Devotees are coming here from not only Haryana but also from other states to visit this ancient Goddess temple.
People here believe that ‘Mata Rani’ fulfills every vow of her devotees. At the same time, devotees also offer horses in the temple of Mata Rani when the wish is fulfilled. However, these horses are not real. They can be made of anything like gold, silver, and clay. The temple is more crowded during Navratri days.

Presiding Idol and Worshiping

There is a surprisingly impressive idol of Maa Bhadrakali situated in this temple. The idols located in the temple are worshiped & adorned by devotees on every occasion with tremendous dedication. South Facing idol of Lord Hanuman, Lord Ganesh & Lord Bhairav, placed in the temple along with the spiritual icon of Goddess Bhadrakali. There is also a Shivling kept in the temple in which the head, consecration & snake raised naturally.

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the nearest airport to reach the temple as it is only 160kms away from the temple. Buses and taxis are highly available on Airport to reach you to the temple.

By Railways

Kurukshetra Junction railway station is the closest station, even temple is only 2-3 km away from the railway junction. You can hire any public transport like rickshaw, taxi, and bus to reach the temple.

By Roadways

Roads are well connected to the major cities of the country. So one can even go by their own transport to reach the temple. Taxi and Bus services are always accessible from various cities of the nation. The distance from Delhi to reach the temple is 160 km, from Karnal 40 km, and 42 km from Ambala.

Best time to Visit

The best time to visit the Devikupa Bhadrakali Temple is September to March in winter as weather is really cool, cozy & pleasant. Do avoid visiting in Summers because the temperature of Kurukshetra in summers is very hot and humid.
